MasterChef Junior finale: Did Justise Mayberry or Jasmine Stewart win?
Before getting to that, it feels right to backtrack slightly to what got us to this point in the episode. At the end of the first hour, the show said farewell to Adam and Shayne, two very strong contestants over the course of the season. The Shayne one probably was the biggest bummer, just because he was such an entertaining presence on the season and brought with him a whole lot of passion. Also, he’s a fellow Texan.
The final two this season certainly did have a heck of a challenge, given that they had to do more than just cook their best food of the whole season. They also had to do so in front of Martha Stewart! This was the most impressive lineup of the season, and these two had to execute dishes with enough finesse to win over the judges one final time.
Going into the finale, it did feel as though these two were going to be the cooks standing at the very end. Therefore, there’s nothing about this that screams “surprise.” Does that take away from the show creatively? Maybe you can argue so from the vantage point of surprises. However, the flip argument of that is that you want the best people there at the end. It ratchets up the competition to another level, and it brings about so much more drama as a result of it.
This was not a finale with a predictable end. In some ways, you can proclaim that Justise is the worthy winner given that Jasmine was previously eliminated; yet, Jasmine won her back, and was lights-out for the majority of the season following her return. She proved that she’s worthy of the second chances, and that is precisely why the show decides to often do this.
The winner is… Jasmine! She pulled off the ultimate comeback, and was able to make it all the way to the end and win. Massive congratulations are certainly in order.

All four were amazing cooks and either of them were worthy of winning. I was very happy however that Jasmine won because she was always a very strong cook. It was such a bummer when she was sent home before simply because of a blow torch and not her actual cooking skills but I was happy to see her come back because even though I had always considered her a favorite, I knew it was then that I wanted her to win. Congrats Jasmine you totally deserved it!!
