Is Chicago Med new tonight? Why the wait for season 3 is longer

Is Chicago Med new tonight on NBC? This is the final Thursday of the May sweeps period (which lasts until May 24), so it’s fair to wonder.

Unfortunately, the news on that subject is certainly not going to bring a smile to many faces: There is no new episode tonight on NBC, and the specific reason why is because the finale for season 2 aired last week! There’s no more story to tell for now, and the network will be airing two episodes of The Blacklist instead tonight in order to properly wrap up season 4 and kick things off leading into the fifth season of the show.

As for when season 3 is coming on the air, there is a little bit more news on the subject compared to a week before. The show is not on the fall schedule, so you probably shouldn’t expect to see the series back on the air in September or October. Instead, it’s probably looking like January-March is a more realistic premiere date at this time, unless there is a cancellation or some last-second switch. It’s definitely possible. If you think back to the first season of the show on NBC, it originally was going to premiere later in the season but was moved up thanks to Heartbeat and its premiere being pushed back. Interestingly, Heartbeat found itself canceled when it die premiere at midseason.

The current status of Chicago Med season 3 happens to not be the only mystery when it comes to the One Chicago universe. After all, you also have to be aware of the fact that there is no second season just yet for Chicago Justice, and because of all of this confusion, it’s probably going to make it all the more complicated to do some of those epic crossover events. These things require many months of planning. Even with Med now it may be difficult to plot some of them out, if for no other reason than that nobody knows when it’s coming back and if the characters gravitate over to other shows, it will have to happen in a way that doesn’t necessarily give away too much when it comes to the story.
