Code Black season 3, Elementary season 6 to have shorter runs

Black season 3

While the Code Black season 3 renewal may be official, the bad news is that you’ll be seeing less of it when it does return.

According to a new report from SpoilerTV, CBS is only going to be ordering thirteen episodes of the medical drama for the coming season, and the same goes for another show in Elementary that, to date, had aired 24 episodes a year. These two shows are being moved into more of contingency plans in the events that other new series go south, and neither are on the fall schedule.

On paper, this does seem like the right move to make for both series given the fact that both of them failed to really tear the roof off in terms of ratings for this past season. The network does need to look at making some other decisions in the event that things don’t work that well the first time around, and these shows did leave a little bit of something to be desired. They both have followings, so hopefully they will in turn follow the shows to whenever they air.

Here is the bad news when it comes to Code Black especially. By the time that it does premiere on CBS, a good year may have passed since the end of season 2. Having that long of a hiatus is hardly a good thing, especially when you are a show that didn’t have super-long episode runs in the first place. The one reason for hope in advance of a potential season 4 is that this audience has been fairly resilient already. Even though we’ve yet to see Code Black get a 22-episode order, it’s been fairly scrappy in how it’s managed to stick around. If it can hover around a 1.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic for season 3, there is a good chance that it could do so again.

What do you think about these two shows only getting a thirteen-episode order? Do you think that this is the right move for where the two of them are at the moment? Share below!
