Doctor Who season 10: Michelle Gomez leaving alongside Peter Capaldi
Speaking in a new interview with the Radio Times, Gomez made it clear that her exit in the role of Missy a.k.a. the Master has everything to do with the departures of both Steven Moffat and star Peter Capaldi. Without those two, the show wouldn’t quite be the same. With her exit, this creates even more freedom for new showrunner Chris Chibnall to work on some new things:
“My pals are going so I’m going. Everybody’s leaving, so I’m going too. I mean, what would I do without Peter and Steven? Who would I be?
“Nah, it’s done now. It’s over. It’s the end of a chapter.”
Given that Missy is INCREDIBLE on Doctor Who, you can easily make the case that she could appear for many seasons more and nobody would be all that upset about it. In the end, you just have to remember the old saying that sometimes, it’s better to leave with people wanting more from you than overstaying your welcome, sense the last thing that you want to do is be in a situation where people actually are tried of your work … or you are tired of it in turn.
There are of course rumors aplenty out there already on future Doctor Who season 11 stars, but a whole lot of that feels almost as though it is a pointless exercise that is not going to get anyone virtually anywhere. While there are some great people and actors out there who could easily come on board this show, the reality still is that there’s no real reason to give in to the cycle of posting about a revolving list of names every day. When the announcement date is close, then it’ll be easier to start speculating. Otherwise, doesn’t this just feel irresponsible to lead people on?
