CarterMatt Quick Hits: Nashville season 5 promotion; Will & Grace trailer; Odd Couple canceled
Let’s start with the CMT drama series, given the big and super-recent announcement coming out that Cameron Scoggins, who plays Zach Welles has been promoted to series regular for at least the remainder of season 5 if not longer. Does this mean that Zach and Will are well on their way to being a lasting couple? You gotta hope so, given that the show’s so far into its run and the future beyond the upcoming sixth season is for the time being unclear.
In terms of other news related to Nashville, TVLine reports that Odessa Adlon (really a perfect name for a country singer) is going to recur as a runaway named Liv.
The Will & Grace trailer is here – The show is premiering on NBC Thursdays this fall in an effort to bring back the wonderful must-see TV label that existed for so many years. This is a very fun and very meta way to reintroduce the show, including mentions of network executives Robert Greenblatt and Jennifer Salke — plus, there’s a very good Dick Wolf Easter egg through in here. Debra Messing is the voice of dissension in the trailer when it comes to bringing the show back, but by the end it is her singing voice that actually shines through and brings out a big smile.
If this doesn’t get you excited for the new edition of the show, it’s possible that you had no plans of every watching it in the first place. This is a tremendous amount of fun, and a celebration of the show’s overall legacy to go along with it.
The Odd Couple canceled – Unfortunately, this news is hardly a surprise and is out there all over the internet already. The CBS comedy starring Matthew Perry and Thomas Lennon is over after three seasons. Lennon said in a CarterMatt interview earlier this year that he wasn’t all that optimistic the show would be coming back, and the assumption long before the announcement was that the show would end up getting canceled in the end.
