New Absentia teaser with Stana Katic short, but certainly effective
If you look below, you can see a video featuring none other that Stana Katic’s main character of Emily Byrne looking back at a certain part of her past. Maybe this is a memory of hers that flashes through one of the scenes in the story, or maybe this is a full-fledged flashback that is presented over the course of an episode. Either way, this is both notable and powerful scene since it features Emily presumably with her child, having fun splashing about in the water. Given the backdrop, this may be in a lake or pond somewhere; it certainly seems like a rather nice day. She also says something in the three-second clip, but there’s no audio to make out precisely what it is. (Thanks to the angle, it’s also pretty difficult to lip-read.)
This teaser was posted by the show’s official Twitter account along with the message of “please, help me see more of this memory.” This could be indicative of Byrne’s desperation to either remember other things she may have forgotten during her many years away from her child, or could just be a plea for more time after life has gone on, and this child is now being raised by another woman, who is now with the man who was her husband at the time of her disappearance. All of this is powerful, haunting, and in the vein with much of what’s released for the show so far this season.
One other interesting thing to consider at the moment is that this is far from the first reference to swimming in any of the Absentia teasers that are out there. Numerous other ones highlight a pool, which suggest that the water in some way has a personal connection to Emily. Maybe it is a hobby of hers, or a key component of her past in a way that will be further explored. One way or another, these are clearly being shown to us for a reason.

I get it now. At first I didn’t think much of the social media promotion being used for Absentia, but now taken as a group you get more of a sense of the movie than you would from a trailer. They have taken the approach of expressing the drama with Stana’s face in this short clip and the other stills.
