Prison Break, 24: Legacy not canceled, on hold for the time being
Is it possible that Prison Break and 24: Legacy could return? Given recent ratings, it’s fair to wonder if they will be coming back. At the same time, there was nothing confirmed this morning, and neither show was on the fall schedule. As it turns out, that is intentional. The two parties made it clear that they were happy creatively with both shows, but neither was intended to be the sort of show that comes on an annual basis. There may be an opportunity to revisit the two down the line, with the Prison Break producers already starting to think about some ideas to continue the franchise in some form.
In reading the tea leaves, maybe there is a little bit more excitement at the moment for Prison Break than the future of 24, and one of the biggest reasons for that is simply due to the fact that the former show has the bulk of its original cast members still on board and there is more nostalgia present there. With that, there is a further reason for many longtime fans of the franchise to want to tune in.
Ultimately, the blueprint to look at with either one of these series is the recent revival of The X-Files, at least when it comes to how Fox chose to program it. They aired new episodes in 2016, took 2017 off, and signs point towards it coming back in 2018. There will be a little bit more news coming out on that subject soon.
For now, the best advice worth giving to Prison Break fans especially right now is to enjoy the finale. Take it as though it could be a series finale, but remember that the show already had The Final Break and still somehow managed to emerge from the grave. The same goes for the series’ lead in Michael Scofield.
