Longmire season 6 spoilers: Barry Sloane returning as Zachary!
In a post on Twitter, series regular Adam Bartley (The Ferg) was the first to confirm the news of Sloane’s return, which feels right given that The Ferg and Zachary had a close bond by the end of season 4 after some initial tensions between the two. Few shows explore the idea of male friendship realistically and effectively, and with him around, the show had two very strong pairs in The Ferg / Zach and Walt / Henry. (Granted, it’s not like Walt and Henry are on the best terms these days — Henry’s also near death, which doesn’t help anything.)
Zachary left Longmire under less than ideal circumstances at the end of season 4, as his zen philosophy and spirit was starting to crack and Walt fired him over the way he handled Monte. Bringing him back now will prove interesting just from the vantage point of getting a good update on his character, what he’s been up to, and where his relationship with The Ferg now stands. Also, it should be fun to see if he gets roped into another case. Sloane’s a fantastic actor who brought a lot to the part, and he’s certainly been busy thanks to SIX and other work since season 4 ended. It’s a rather wonderful stroke that the show managed to pick him up for a while in the first place.
It’s not so much a fun fact since it’s not really a fact at all, but still worth noting — the Longmire season 4 finale may be the best episode of the entire series. Remember that cliffhanger and how badly it made you want to throw things?
Longmire season 6 premieres on Netflix at some point this fall. Now you know this news, and it’s one more thing to rock back and forth in anticipation over between now and when the show comes back. Hopefully, there are a bevy of other returning characters over the final episodes to help send the TV version of Walt Longmire’s story off into the sunset.
