Big Brother Canada 5 live feed spoilers: The Veto winner; toast to Ika

Veto Ceremony aftermath

By the time the final four veto winner was announced in the Big Brother Canada house, the majority of folks even on the West Coast were asleep. In the end, though, many Kevin fans are waking up to great news. He took home another competition, and this gives him the chance to evict Ika from the game.

There’s no point beating around the bush here. Unless for whatever reason Kevin has a moment of temporary insanity (possible, given that he did nominate Dillon over Karen in an attempt to control the vote), Ika is going in fourth place, which puts her in the same club as Cassandra as a really great fourth-place finisher. With that said, Ika is probably a step above Cassandra in that she was more of the alpha of her alliance, where it felt like Tim and Cass were an equal partnership in so many ways.

Ika played this season arguably one of the best social and strategic games in Big Brother Canada history. She deserves tons of praise for getting both her and Demetres saved after they were initially put on the block as nominees twice. She managed to flip Sindy over to create the defining move for much of the season in getting Neda out of the game right at the start of jury.

It’s too early to compare Ika to some of the other best players to never win the game, but for now it makes sense to put her alongside people like Emmett in season 1 or Neda from season 2. If there is some consolation worth giving to some of her fans, it’s that the best player rarely wins this show. Jillian won the first season in a freak accident, Jon (probably the best winner to date) won by making a smart move against Neda in the final three, Sarah was the beneficiary of a huge twist with Brittnee and people not respecting Godfrey’s game, and the Paqs brothers were good enough to win competitions and go to the end against someone who’d been evicted before. Ika played a great game and was thoroughly entertaining.

Above all, kudos to Ika for managing to be in good spirits last night, even while knowing that her game was almost certainly over because she and Demetres couldn’t stop a man who just won his fourth straight competition in which he was eligible to play for. It’s the benefit of studying — in some ways, it benefits you in the game to be the underdog from the final five on since you can focus on studying and not care so much about social relationships; you already know that people want you out of the game.

Now, either Kevin or Demetres will almost surely win the game, with the one concern being if Karen somehow pulls this off. She will likely have some votes.
