Grantchester season 3 episode 5 spoilers: Sidney’s unusual crisis

On Grantchester season 3 episode 5, will Sidney be labeled a killer? The entire conceit of this may feel strange, but simultaneously, it is also a common trope in many mystery shows. Once a series lasts for long enough, there is somehow a case always about someone being wrongfully imprisoned and it makes a certain degree of sense given that these are people constantly around death. The more that you see pain and suffering — or show some deep-rooted interest in murdering people — the more that you start to wonder if there is something wrong with the person behind the investigations, as well.

Still, viewers have the benefit of the doubt here. They know that someone like Sidney is not capable of such things as murder, and it is up to the rest of the town in order to pick up and identify this a little bit further. The information from next week’s episode signals some of the struggle that will be at play for the character.

Grantchester season 3 episode 5 synopsis – “Sidney finds his way to a Romany camp that is now home to Ronnie Maguire. Initially intoxicated by the free-spirited atmosphere, Sidney wonders if he will ever return home. But murder is never far from Sidney’s door and when one of the community is killed, Sidney the ‘outsider’ becomes the prime suspect.”

Logically, it makes sense for the community to target Sidney given that he is the “other” in this situation, and it is the natural tendency in some ways to overtly look at the person different than you in many ways as the person most likely to commit a crime. In this case, it just so happens to be someone often responsible for often resolving them, which makes you wonder just how terrible some of these characters truly are in terms of judging characters.

Anticipate as a whole a thrilling, interesting hour of television that provides a little bit of everything that you could possibly want in a good mystery. Obviously, it is also clear that Sidney has further motivation than ever before to crack the case given that the last thing that he will want is to be pinned for something he is not responsible for.
