Shark Tank, Dancing with the Stars, The Bachelor all renewed
In the midst of the mass renewals / red wedding of cancellations this week, it’s nice to have some sort of update on some reality series.
Late Thursday, ABC confirmed (as expected) that Shark Tank, Dancing with the Stars, and The Bachelor will be back for future cycles. The latter show is one of ABC’s top-rated shows in the 18-49 demographic, in addition to it being a pop-culture phenomenon. Meanwhile, Dancing with the Stars remains incredibly solid in total viewers, and with a new cast every season, there’s always a chance to recruit new fans of the ballroom.
With Shark Tank, there was a little more drama when you think for a minute about the lower ratings this season, plus all the drama in terms of Kevin O’Leary running for the Conservative Party leadership in Canada. With him dropping out of the race over fears that he would not carry Quebec, odds are he will return for more of the show.
The biggest thing that all of these shows need to continue to do is stay the course, and remain true to their brands — they’re shows that are often watched by families — in the case of The Bachelor, families with older kids. With Shark Tank, they need to find products that can find success and further along the success of the show in turn. Dancing with the Stars is all about the casting — producers need to stay willing to cast an array of different names, whether it be the expected (Olympians) to the unexpected (Bonner Bolton, Mr. T). The element of surprise is a big component to the show’s success.
All of these shows will air as a part of the 2017-18 season. Unfortunately, there is no word at present on the fate of another unscripted series at present in The Toy Box, which has struggled to make a huge impact since its debut in the ratings.
