Empire season 3 episode 17 spoilers: Two-part finale event begins

Empire season 3 episode 17 is clearly going to be far from an average episode of the show. It’s the beginning of the end! Or, at least it is for this season, given that a season 4 is on tap and is going to be coming on Fox at some point a little bit later in the fall.

What is important to know going into next week’s new episode “Toil and Trouble, Part 1” is that Vegas is going to be even more of a key component in the story than ever before. Sin City is causing all sorts of conflict between Lucious and Cookie, even more so than there was before. You can blame Giuliana in part for some of this, but you do have to remember somewhere along the way that Lucious and Cookie are also their own people capable of their own actions, and they didn’t have to go along with anything. They’ve allowed themselves to be put into a position where they’ll be butting heads and at times plotting against each other.

Empire season 3 episode 17 synopsis – “When Cookie is banned from Leviticus Vegas, she pulls together a team of her own allies to seek revenge on Giuliana and steal her secret weapon. Meanwhile, Jamal is encouraged to put his album on hold, so as not to compete with Lucious’ Inferno.”

Judging from what this synopsis is saying about Lucious and Jamal also makes us think that old wounds are being reopened there. If there is one thing that we know about Lucious at this point in the show’s run, it’s that he has this innate insecurity about someone else getting more opportunities to have success or notoriety. He didn’t like everything going on when it comes to Cookie and Angelo, and he certainly didn’t like everything going on with Jamal when things are going better for him than himself. It’s definitely going to be interesting to see just what happens next with these two.
