The Voice season 13: Jennifer Hudson set; Adam Levine, Blake Shelton back
For the first time in the American show’s history, they are actually picking someone with history of doing the job overseas. Hudson was a part of the British version earlier this year, and ended up even producing the winning artist over there. Now, she will join Miley Cyrus on the fall edition stateside. We’re also happy to confirm that Adam Levine and Blake Shelton are also both going to be back for another cycle. While it was assumed by many that they were staying put, it’s nice to have some confirmation given that there are always rumors floating around out there.
In a statement, NBC’s alternative-programming head Paul Telegdy had the following to say about Hudson’s addition to the panel:
“Jennifer is an extraordinary vocal talent and one of the premier voices of our time … She embodies the experience, expertise, positivity and sheer talent that The Voice stands for. Her exceptional skills as a singer and actress have extended to film, television and Broadway, which makes her an incredible addition and a natural fit for our show.”
We do find it interesting that the word “positivity” is specifically highlighted, almost like NBC wants to explicitly remind you that this is one of the calling cards of their show as opposed to the returning American Idol, where some of the critiques can be a little bit more frank and there is less personal investment between the artists and the judges.
New episodes of The Voice will air this fall; for the time being, there isn’t any word on the coaches for the spring cycle. We like Hudson very much, but we’ll see what sort of ratings impact that she brings to the table.
