Criminal Minds season 12 finale spoilers: Emily Prentiss goes to extremes
In the video below, you can see exactly what Paget Brewster’s character is planning in an attempt to save Spencer Reid and his mother Diana in the aftermath of the kidnapping. Specifically, she’s putting out an Amber Alert for Lindsey Vaughn, but not as a victim; instead, she’s being listed as someone out doing the abducting. You can argue over whether or not this befits the letter of the law; what we do know for the time is that she’s fulfilling the spirit of what she thinks it’s best. She wants to be able to ensure that he is safe, and this is a way to get people safe.
Prentiss also realized that what she’s doing is very risky, and she has to be willing to take charge and face the consequences in the event that things go south. This is why she tells Garcia to leave the room while she works on her mission, since she doesn’t want to do anything that puts her at risk. This is a way in order to ensure that she gets precisely what she wants with the smallest amount of total blowback.
By the end of this episode, it’s certainly possible that we’ll have some answers on not only Lindsey, but also Cat Adams and Mr. Scratch. One of the great things about the end of the season at the moment is that the show probably has done a better job than ever before of cultivating its lineup of villains based on excellent characters from the past. If there was ever a time to throw things into further chaos, it’s by bringing Aubrey Plaza back now. One of the big mysteries now is if the story is resolved, if it’s possible for things to get back to anywhere near as close to what they were. That’s a different thing to try and figure out.
