The Flash season 3 episode 21 spoilers: All Savitar answers are coming…
In the video below, executive producer Aaron Helbing reveals that over the course of the first five minutes of Tuesday’s episode “Cause and Effect,” you will have a chance in order to learn a little bit more about why Future Barry Allen became this way, what he wants with the past version of himself, and what his ultimate endgame could be. He’s obviously a very different sort of villain than any that we’ve seen before, mostly because his motivation seems to be mostly ensuring that nothing in the past stands in his way of the future. Killing Iris West is obviously the touchstone moment in Barry going down the hole, one that leads to him caring about nothing more than speed and eventually destroying the world as he knows it.
Now, the biggest question that we wonder is how Barry goes about burning the side of his face, since that hasn’t happened yet within the world of “The Once and Future Flash.” That’s a moment being saved for some further moment down the road.
We’re obviously going to be jettisoned down a road over the final three episodes where things are going to move rather quickly. While we realize that we’ve already said this, the fact remains the same: The Flash is going to have to move really fast (ironically) to tell a satisfying story within the short period of time in which they have left. They’ve ultimately put quite a bit of pressure on themselves in their attempt to really pull this off. We’re not entirely sure that they can, and they should have revealed Savitar’s identity at the end of the winter run so that the final five episodes could have told this story instead of the final three. (Heck, they could have cut out the two Grodd episodes, which they really couldn’t make worth with their budget, and we would’ve been rather fine with it.)
