Fear the Walking Dead season 3 star Cliff Curtis nets Avatar role

Cliff Curtis

The schedule of Cliff Curtis just got a little bit busier. After all, the Fear the Walking Dead star just landed a role in the Avatar franchise.

Sources confirm that Curtis will be joining Sigourney Weaver, Zoe Saldana, Sam Worthington, and Stephen Lang in the role of Tonowari. He could be appearing in as many as the four upcoming projects from director James Cameron, which is highly ambition … while also raising questions about his future on Fear the Walking Dead to go along with it.

For the time being, Entertainment Weekly reports that Curtis will balance his time traveling from the set of Fear the Walking Dead to his home country of New Zealand, which is where much of the work on the Avatar project will be conducted. Could this be a smokescreen? It is possible, mostly because the “they’re more than capable of doing both projects” excuse was also what was said about Sonequa Martin-Green after she was cast as the main character on Star Trek: Discovery.

No matter what happens with the role of Travis on the AMC drama, you have to be happy for Curtis here. While we still have no idea how much money some of these Avatar sequels will make, we do know that the first film ended up being one of the most successful and profitable films of all time. Until Star Wars: The Force Awakens, we weren’t sure that any film was going to be able to match the success of Avatar in North America. We’ll see what the next few end up doing, but it does feel fair to say that anticipation for them is going to be high. We wouldn’t expect a whole lot less at this point.

In the event that Travis is written off of Fear the Walking Dead at some point in the future, it’s not all that hard to figure out some reasons why it could happen. Just remember for a moment here that this is a show set in a zombie apocalypse, where death can happen on a near-regular basis.
