Psych movie coming to USA as two-hour Christmas Special

Psych movie

The following news is hopefully going to bring some joy to your heart just in the way that it did ours — a Psych movie is officially a go!

Many weeks ago, we wrote that all of the stars were starting to align for a movie coming to USA, whether it be schedules for the actors to recent comments from stars James Roday and Dule Hill at a convention. Now, we know for sure there is a two-hour event happening this holiday season. It’s fittingly titled Psych: The Movie, and it will featre all of the main cast members for the show: Roday, Hill, Timothy Omundson, Maggie Lawson, Corbin Bernsen, and Kristen Nelson. Roday co-wrote the movie with series creator Steve Franks; the following logline gives you a sense of what to expect:

“The ambitious friends — along with some returning fan-favorite characters — come together during the holidays after a mystery assailant targets one of their own. A comedic thrill ride follows, as the wild and unpredictable Psych team pursues the bad guys, justice …and food!”

Meanwhile, in a statement Chris McCumber, President, Entertainment Networks for NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment, said the following:

Psych is a beloved part of our USA family, and what better time to reunite with family than the holidays … Steve and James have taken the unique brand of comedy that the series honed over eight seasons and packed it in to a two-hour movie that successfully rekindles one of the greatest bro-mances in television history.”

We cannot even begin to express the joy we have over the prospects of such an event. Psych has long been considered one of our favorite shows of all time just because it’s such a beacon for fun. It gives you a good mystery, but more than that it makes you smile and laugh. It’s a show that we could always use more of, so we’re thrilled to see it coming back. Who knows? If this movie gets huge ratings, maybe somewhere down the line the network could look at ordering more of the actual show.

One thing we do wonder already is if we’re going to be seeing Omundson without the beard, given that the thought of this feels incredibly foreign to us at this point.

How excited are you to see this happen? Sound off now in the comments, and rest assured that we’ll share more news once we hear more. (Photo: USA.)
