The latest on Better Call Saul, The Leftovers season 3 ratings
With that being said, the numbers that we have to report on as of late aren’t necessarily bad when compared to other recent performances for both shows.
Better Call Saul – The Bob Odenkirk series is in the midst of an interesting phenomenon, one where the quality of the show keeps improving but the live+same day ratings continue to call. While this past episode actually drew a 0.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 1.56 million viewers (both increases from the week before), they also are down more than 25% in both live+same day metrics from season 2.
What’s the cause here? It’s not the quality. Instead, it’s likely the fact that AMC, like so many other networks, is struggling in the age of instant gratification. This is why so many networks and streaming services are out there packaging a la carte for a flat fee a month — they have to make up money elsewhere given how viewers want instant gratification now and now commercials. They just want to watch and enjoy programming live with interruption.
The Leftovers – Meanwhile, the Damon Lindelof series improved its own viewer total to around 850,000 from the week before — just remember here that the demo doesn’t matter nearly as much when it comes to a premium cable network like HBO. This show is actually charting ahead of season 2 to date, and that’s without even factoring in other metrics. Like with Better Call Saul at this point, the majority of the viewers for The Leftovers are people who are watching after the fact, such as on their DVR or some sort of streaming platform. Because of all of this, it is sometimes rather hard to be able to properly gauge how many people are watching a given show at the same time.
