Britain’s Got Talent – Hoop Guy audition turns into utter madness (video)

As we gear up for this weekend’s new Britain’s Got Talent episode, we are very much pleased to introduce you to Hoop Guy, otherwise known as one of the most bonkers auditions known to mankind.

Basically, the entire premise of Hoop Guy is that he goes on stage and does tricks with a really giant hoop while some corny song plays in the background. The act isn’t good, and it really would not last longer than 30 seconds in any talent show around the world.

What makes it somehow good in this venue was seeing the judges all rise to their feet and subject themselves to a welcome round of mass humiliation as Alesha Dixon actually tried her best hula-hooping routine. Simon Cowell, meanwhile, stood there while David Walliams spun the hoop around him. Also gold: Simon suggesting that the background music was actually Alesha’s new single.

We will admit that there was a split second within this that made us think that this could be David’s Golden Buzzer act, but we don’t think that it is given that by and large, the acts he pushes the Golden Buzzer for are ones that we see a little more of the actual audition for more so than some silly aftermath with all of the judges onstage. For the record, we realize that there are plenty of people who get irritated with him routinely putting acts through to the live round who have no business being there. Our response to that is mostly that we’d rather have one of his goofball acts in the semifinal show than a generic dance crew or yet another good-but-not-great singer. They bring a little bit of variety, but there is something about the camp act that helps to give the show more of an identity. Sometimes, it’s a guilty pleasure. At other points, it’s good to be able to unify behind an act that many people all share the same negative sentiment about.
