Once Upon a Time musical: Watch Captain Hook’s number now!
The video below is a high-production, charming, and very-funny performance from Colin O’Donoghue singing about the sort of thing that is very important for any pirate: Revenge. Even more so than a stein full of rum, apparently! It’s a pretty catchy tune, and you definitely get the sense that Colin had a good time filming this with the cast and many of the extras.
What ABC has done in the video below is also rather cool, since they’ve basically given you the lyrics to sing along, just in case you really want to do that over the course of the episode, as well. This is something that we’ve seen Disney do with some theatrical releases such as Frozen, so this video feels almost in the same vein as some of their feature films in that way.
Now, the one other question that you have to wonder going into the musical episode on a meta level is this: Why release these full numbers ahead of time? We’ve already discussed the one featuring Lana Parrilla as the Evil Queen, and now this one. Is it a big risk to put on the internet early some of the main reason why people are going to be watching? Definitely. We have to think that there are two different things that the network is thinking with this move: Doing so provides so much goodwill that it will offset any potential negative effects, and that doing this will also further ensure that there are some people who watch out of curiosity who maybe haven’t seen the show in a season or two.
Personally, we’re not going to do anything to question the judgment of the Once Upon a Time producers and the network here given that they are all in support of the same goal: Supporting the show and finding a way to ensure that it gets another season. At the moment, it’s not drawing the sort of numbers that you would think it needs in order to be confident about its future.
What do you think about Hook’s musical number, and how thrilled are you that Colin got a chance to perform in this capacity on the show? Be sure to share in the comments! (Photo: ABC.)
