Absentia episode count: The present and future of Stana Katic series
Let’s start here with a presentation of the bare facts, and that begins with noting that Absentia is being billed as a ten-episode Sony AXN thriller. What’s a little less clear is if these ten episodes are structured as a limited series or a standard series that can be renewed.
Based on some of the language the show was giving us when it first came out, we’re inclined to say that these ten episodes are just the beginning. There was no specific promotion surrounding it as a limited series; yet, there may be some things structurally that the creative team could borrow from that kind of format … especially in terms of having a specific beginning, middle, and end.
If you’ve done a little bit of reading about the Absentia story as it is at present, then you know that Katic is playing an FBI agent who is found in a cabin after previously being presumed dead. Several years have gone by, and she has no memory of what happened to her after trying to track down a serial killer in Boston. This is a great mystery, but it could be a great mystery to tie up after the first season. There is sometimes a tendency to let mysteries linger a little bit longer than needed, but there is something more exciting about solving one mystery, and opening a new one. It’s constantly creating complicated scenarios for the writers, ones where they will keep viewers on their toes and not have them figuring out what’s coming next. Also, that allows you to keep a pretty quick pace that is in line with only doing ten episodes.
Like we any other series, the success of this show will probably dictate whether or not a second batch of episodes is ordered. It’s hard to say anything for certain without seeing the show, but for now we remain optimistic just because the series seems to have a great model where its success is not being dictated by its performance in any one country.

I’m a Stana Fan for Life so any production she’s in is of interest to me. Abstentia while not being released as of yet any information you can give us is appreciated. I certainly hope that the show will be released in the US as I will watch/record every episode/s, 10 or more. Then if DVD/s are released, I’ll buy them all. Matt, if your keep writing, I”ll keep reading!
