Ratings: Where The Blacklist season 5, Amazing Race 30 renewal hopes are
In starting out with the James Spader – Megan Boone series, the great news is that The Blacklist didn’t fall any further than last week’s 0.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic. Granted, it didn’t show a whole lot of improvement either. This is fairly steady with where the show was the week before, which doesn’t really help or hurt its chances.
We do think that we get at least one more season out of the property, mostly because most of the buzz aside from the live+same day ratings for the show is pretty strong. It performs well in live+7 figures, it has a following all over the world, and it’s inspired plenty of other content even away from the show itself. It even got a spin-off ordered last year, even when it’s ratings weren’t shattering any records then.
Given that NBC has already picked up some new series and also canceled Emerald City, a decision could come here sooner than you’d think.
As for The Amazing Race…
After hitting a lull for a couple of episodes, last night the reality show bounced back with a gain of more than 20% in the demo. Its 0.9 rating in the demo actually was enough for the show to take the #1 spot for the timeslot in the metric — it wasn’t a huge win, but a win is a win nonetheless. We do hope that this could help convince CBS to keep the show around for another season, especially since one of the other failsafe plans in the writers’ strike is now going the way of the dodo. With the writers not being forced to picket and with more scripted content on the way, the show won’t be used as a fill-in in that capacity. It could still have value as a midseason replacement in the event that something else on the schedule completely tanks out.
