Once Upon a Time musical episode sneak peek: Lana Parrilla sings!
What’s just as impressive as Lana’s voice in this clip are the assembly of familiar faces tied to the show who turn up. Not only as there a small cameo from Giancarlo Esposito’s Sidney Glass / Magic Mirror, but you also get a chance to see Snow, Charming, Granny, and even Grumpy displaying some of their own pipes.
Does this number really accomplish a whole lot in terms of the plot? Not really, and that is probably going to be a recurring theme over the course of the episode. Very few shows ever use musical numbers to advance the plot, though Barry sort of did on The Flash with that closing number earlier this year. (We won’t say anything else in the event you haven’t seen it already.)
The point of this musical episode is, by and large, to have a good time and to celebrate the show. In lieu of this being in part a clip show leading up to the wedding of Hook and Emma, instead it’s a way to look back at some of these characters were in entertaining ways. Hook will sing among his fellow pirates, obviously this is a Snow and Charming we’re going to be back before the events of the pilot, and there are several other musical surprises taking place in the episode. Probably the biggest question that we have is just how in the world they still had money in their budget after all of this, given that you had to have choreographers, an abundance of guest stars, and extras galore in order for this to work. (Remember, there are still two episodes to come after the musical.)
