In today’s edition of CarterMatt’s Outlander notes, we’re excited to kick things off by shining a light on a new Caitriona Balfe fundraiser!
As you may already be familiar with, the Outlander actress behind the character of Claire Fraser / Claire Randall works closely with the organization World Child Cancer to provide care and support for people suffering around the world with the disease. Earlier this week, Balfe officially launched a new campaign entitled #CaitsCaraids, which is a way to raise money to provide aid, support, and further education to cancer patients and their families in Ghana. The video is yet another reminder that a little bit of money can go a long way in this part of the globe, and we feel fairly confident that she will be able to reach her goal given the passion and support of Outlander fans.
The link to take part in the campaign is included below if you would like to participate. In between Balfe and World Child Cancer and Sam Heughan with Bloodwise, one of the great things about being a part of the Outlander community is that you know the series leads are dedicated and passionate when it comes to supporting the causes that they believe in. They don’t just mention a charity once and are done with it – it’s a passion.
As many of you may know already, both Balfe and Heughan are currently in South Africa, where they are filming scenes for Outlander season 3. This batch of episodes will premiere on Starz this September.
New Diana Gabaldon interview – Meanwhile, if you are looking for something different you can check out a new interview with Diana Gabaldon over at CBC News. The Outlander author sat down with a local Prince Edward Island program to discuss her work, the location and some of its connections to her story. It’s a fascinating listen (the interview runs about fifteen minutes), so be sure to check it out.
As a dual Canadian / American citizen, we do appreciate it when we get to see Canadian media have an opportunity to spotlight people who are excellent in their craft. Also, PEI is one of those places that is on our wishlist that we’d love to go to at some point. It’s beautiful there! Interestingly, it probably reminds us more visually of Scotland than many other places within Canada (with maybe some parts of New Brunswick serving as the runner-up).
