Britain’s Got Talent: Comedian Daliso Chaponda gets a Golden Buzzer
Daliso is a comedian who’s lived in Britain for around ten years after growing up in Malawi, and his routine really captured much of his roots while also being really hilarious and relevant to the present day. Perhaps what he was better at than anything was putting much of the world in perspective. His bit about Britain not understanding the meaning of crisis was exceptional, especially with the references to Bono and people throwing fish and chips outside of airplanes.
We also do like that he was just about as edgy as you can be on a family comedy. We need acts like him in the competition to add a different flair, and we like that he could come off this show now and successfully tour. He’s already seasoned, and this show is just a platform that he hasn’t had before now.
We felt the moment that his act was over that he was worthy of a Golden Buzzer, and our main question was just where said buzzer was going to be coming from. We though for a moment or two that it could be David Walliams given that he’s a fellow comic, but he tends to use his more on silly acts. Then, we thought Ant and Dec. Luckily, that happened courtesy of Amanda Holden! She seemed thrilled to advance him forward, and she really wants to see a comedian to go far in the competition.
Ultimately, we’d be thrilled if the guy wins so long as he continues to have this sort of material. Luckily, we feel pretty confident that he’s got plenty of that in his back pocket still. If he’s been working for years, he only used a couple of minutes of his best material here. We like to think that he’s got several hours more of refined bits here that are tried-and-true from the road.
Overall, we’d say that at least so far, Daliso is our favorite Golden Buzzer act from this season. We’ll see where things go from here.
