Supergirl season 2 spoilers: The Maggie – Kara dynamic at play in ‘Alex’

Maggie - Kara

Monday night’s Supergirl episode is entitled “Alex,” and it looks like the Maggie – Kara dynamic is going to be the star more in the hour than any special effects or superpowers. After going through a crazy experience with nanotechnology and Jack Spheer on this past episode of the show, it’s looking a little bit more now that we’re gearing up for somethign more personal and intimate.

As you may have heard already (especially if you saw the promo for the episode), one of the main focuses of the episode “Alex” is going to be seeing more of precisely what happens when Chyler Leigh’s character gets captured, and the rest of the team has to figure out how to rescue her. There will specifically be major tension between Kara and Maggie as to how to help her, and this is something that executive producer Andrew Kreisberg touches on further to Entertainment Weekly about:

“What’s interesting is it’s really an episode about jurisdiction … It’s really a Maggie-Kara episode. It starts with them at loggerheads about, where does the police’s jurisdiction end and where does Supergirl’s begin? They’re on opposite sides of that. Maggie is obviously more for the police and Supergirl is more for Supergirl … Who gets to make the decisions to save Alex: The sister or the girlfriend?. It’s great because neither of them are right and neither of them are wrong, and they both love her and both want her back. It’s just a question of who’s willing to do what to bring that about?”

Watching this back-and-forth struggle play out over the course of the episode will likely prove interesting, especially since these are both women who likely carry with them strong opinions about who is right in this situation and who knows best. Above all else, we do feel pretty confident that despite whatever differences they may run into, they’ll figure out the right thing to do to help Alex. They both also probably have an opportunity here to bond. If Maggie is going to become a part of the family, which certainly seems that way based on the direction of the relationship at present, it does feel prudent that she and Kara continue to form a bond of their own. Sometimes, you can form these said bonds the easiest through conflict.
