New Girl season 7: Does Nasim Pedrad casting signal show’s future fate?
According to TVLine, the former Saturday Night Live cast member is set to recur on People of Earth season 2 over at TBS in the role of Alex Foster, describes a “smart, dedicated FBI investigator getting a second chance after recently being disgraced … [She is] on the hunt for local newspaper owner Jonathan Walsh (played by Michael Cassidy), who is wanted for white-collar crimes.”
When it comes to the role here, there’s a lot to be excited about since you want Pedrad to have as many opportunities as possible to make us laugh. If you are a fan of New Girl, we understand your trepidation. The show is sitting firmly on the bubble right now, and it’s not clear whether or not Fox will renew it for a seaosn 7. Jake M. Johnson recently suggested that it may not happen, though we’ve heard contrasting information that front.
For Nasim, this move is understandable since she locks in employment. She wasn’t a regular on the show as Aly during either of the past two seasons, so it’s hard for her to stay committed full-time on a show that isn’t offering that same commitment back. Given that Winston and Aly are now engaged, though, it does make you wonder more how their story could continue if she is not around for all of it. Our feeling is that Aly would go undercover or do something else when she is not available to film, and then turn up for a handful of episodes here and there.
In getting to our ultimate conclusion here, we’d say that it is a mistake to think one way or another that Pedrad getting this role on the show is a signal one way or another that New Girl is going to end. If you see a regular like a Johnson or a Max Greenfield take a series regular role somewhere else, then some of the warning alarms will start to sound in our head.
