The Leftovers season 3 ratings reflect strong buzz
Obviously, the first thing to note here is that no performance is going to change the fact that this is the final season of the show, given that it was the decision of showrunner David Lindelof to end things and come up with a great way to wrap up the story. Still, good ratings here means that the network may be more inclined to work with him again in the future.
With that, let’s get to sharing some of the good news with the ratings through one episode, and note that we’re only speaking in terms of the premiere, and even with that, we’re only speaking in terms of total viewers. Given that this is a show that airs on premium cable, we see less of a reason to get into the whole 18-49 demographic and how much that matters here.
Overall, the premiere episode drew just under 900,000 live viewers, which is a healthy rise of 25% from what the show brought in for its season 2 premiere (which was around 710,000). When comparing it to the season 2 average of 700,000. While the figure is down from the season 2 finale, that’s somewhat expected since we’re talking about a finale. With a show like this, that is the one you really need to watch live out of fear that you are otherwise going to be spoiled.
The spike upward for the premiere is something that we do think is almost ENTIRELY quality based. With many other shows out there, this is not something that you’re going to see in an era where there is so much competition. With this show, it’s so strong that it stands out from the pack, and it inspires you to want to get involved. There really are not all that many other shows out there like it. We expect more than a million people to watch the series finale, and for the momentum to continue as the show progresses.
