Britain’s Got Talent sneak peek: Meet Issy Simpson, kid magician

Issy Simpson

We’ll be the first to say that we don’t always love watching kids try out on talent shows, mostly because there are so many of them that seem to get by just on the “aww” factor. Often, kid magicians are an exception. They have that natural charisma, and are able to combine that to a certain extent with skill and precision. They may not have the most magic skill you’ll ever see, but there is something about the imagination they possess that makes watching them rather fun.

With that, we now bring you a Britain’s Got Talent sneak peek focusing on a new kid magic act in Issy Simpson. She’s someone who ITV advertises as a big Hermoine Granger fan, and we get that with her natural curiosity and charisma in this preview. The illusion that she pulls off here is really simple, but also a ton of fun. She has a box with varying weight, and uses that to troll Simon Cowell and David Walliams. Given that she also supplies David with a little bit of a plug for his book, we hardly think that he is one to mind.

The big reason that this entire act works is because it’s light and fun — Issy is completely in control, and the show does a great job of making sure that this is not overly dramatic or burdened down in the way that some magic auditions are. Issy is also the beneficiary of very good timing, given that she’s coming on the show following the success of Richard Jones last year. There is an appetite for magic at the moment, and what she is doing is certainly rather different than anything he did over the course of last season.
