NBC’s First Dates exclusive preview: Casey, Dantriell have a little fun

First Dates

On Friday night at 8:00 p.m. Eastern time, NBC will air the latest episode of their new unscripted series First Dates, a show that strives to depict real dating as best you can in a television environment. If you haven’t heard much about it yet, it’s based on a UK format and features people of all ages and walks of life taking part in real-life first dates at a restaurant in Chicago. At the end of each people, the daters determine whether or not they want to see each other again, or the chemistry isn’t there and they end up going their separate ways. This is a show about the journey, and watching to see if an awkward situation can lead to actual chemistry

There is certainly a lot of clout here behind the scenes — Ellen DeGeneres serves as an executive producer on the project, whereas Drew Barrymore serves as the narrator.

Now, let’s get to the exclusive sneak peek below, which features two people in Casey and Dantriell seemingly having a good time while out with each other. You’ve got “that what she said” comments straight out of The Office, jokey references to “white meat,” and also a couple of innovative dance moves that you don’t typically see at a nice restaurant. The two have some playful chemistry, so maybe they could make things work even though they have very different vibes.

One of the aspects of the show that is effective is that interspersed through the dates, you get a little more backstory on the daters, who they are, and also who they’re trying to be. There’s an effort by producers to bring you into the world of the daters; sure, there’s a lot of fun to be had, but you get an opportunity to relate to them. In the end, you want to root for some of these people to be together after the fact.

As for whether or not you’ll want to root for Casey and Dantriell in particular, you’ll have to watch on Friday night to figure out!

As always, we welcome your thoughts on this sneak peek in the comments. (Photo: NBC.)
