Chicago Justice exclusive: A gun buyback leads to surprising arrest (video)
In this preview, you can see Laura Nagel and Antonio Dawson taking part in a gun buyback program at a local church, where men and women can come in and extreme firearms for cash. It’s a way to get some dangerous weapons off the street, and it offers up a pretty appetizing way to entice people to make the exchange.
Unfortunately, this particular buyback leads to a surprise arrest. Nagel and Dawson greet a veteran who is looking to exchange his gun, but when they start to take a closer look at it, they quickly determine that there is something off with it. Specifically, we’re talking about some blood-splatter that indicates that it may have been used in a recent murder. This is enough for the man to be put into handcuffs, and he seems more surprised by this than anyone.
Is it possible that this man is truly innocent? It’s tough to say with the limited information that we’ve got. The one thing that we can say for certain about this episode is this: The case for the week begins with an innocent girl’s death that was instigated because of gang violence and social media. The gun brought in at this buyback is somehow connected to said murder; we may go so far as to say it is the weapon used.
In addition to assessing this man’s culpability, Stone and the rest of the team will have to battle in court not only against the potential murderer, but also the social-media company that served as a platform for many of the gang members leading up to the girl’s death.
Like we said, this episode is complicated. Yet, it’s Chicago Justice, and we have a feeling that you probably expected nothing less. For those of you who love crossovers, you are are also going to get a chance to see one Chicago PD cast member in LaRoyce Hawkins stop by, after having a pretty integral role in a Justice episode earlier this season.
