Criminal Minds season 12 finale: Jane Lynch will appear

Jane Lynch

You already heard the news that Shemar Moore was going to be appearing in the Criminal Minds season 12 finale — now, Jane Lynch is, as well.

CBS today officially announced the first details for the upcoming May 10 installment entitled “Red Light,” which is going to feature both the aforementioned actors in some capacity. However, the synopsis below only mentions specifically what Moore’s Derek will be up to:

“Caught in an impossible situation, Reid (Matthew Gray Gubler) must square off with an old nemesis, and Derek Morgan (guest star Shemar Moore) comes to the team with a lead that might help find Mr. Scratch, the elusive fugitive that has been taunting the team all season.”

Is Reid going to be out of prison at some point before the finale airs? We certainly hope so, mostly because we want to have some hope that he’ll get through this extreme trauma okay. Granted, that’s going to prove all the more difficult when you remember that he is squaring off apparently with an “old nemesis.” Obviously, it’s not Mr. Scratch since it’d be strange for him to be mentioned in the synopsis in two different ways. Also, it’d be exciting to get some other villain from the show back — or at least exciting for us. It’s probably not nearly as exciting for any of the characters on the show.

In getting back to Lynch, “Red Light” marks the third confirmed appearance for the former Glee and Party Down star over the course of the season. She appeared earlier this year for the first time in many seasons, and she is also set to be back for the 20th episode of the season entitled “Unforgettable.” (For those wondering about the finale title, the 21st episode of the season is entitled “Green Light” — this pretty much guarantees that we’re looking at a two-parter here in some shape or form.)

There is unfortunately no new episode of Criminal Minds airing on CBS tonight, as there are two episodes of Survivor: Game Changers airing back to back. The show returns next week with “Unforgettable,” and the final three episodes are going to air weekly without further interruption.
