Psych revival: Are signs starting to form?
For the record, we still cannot say that anything is official; yet, some signs are starting to show themselves that pineapples, Shawn, Gus, and funny nicknames could be back at some point. There is a very good list of evidence that can be examined further in the TV Guide video below, and it includes everything from potential Vancouver shooting schedules to a recent convention appearance featuring stars James Roday and Dule Hill.
Also, there are a few other things to take note off. Dule posted the pineapple picture below recently, and as of late the account of the show’s writers has been far more active than it’s been over the past couple of months. One way or another, there’s something brewing, and we definitely think that the appetite is there.
Ever since the show ended, we’ve long envisioned ways to bring it back, whether it be as a six-part limited run, a movie, or a full-on additional season. While we enjoyed the final run on USA, we don’t think it was the best given that Maggie Lawson was only a part of select episodes and it almost felt like it wasn’t confirmed it would be the final season until about midway through. To us, peak Psych is from seasons 4 through 7, where the show really found its stride and we got to enjoy countless hijinks combined with the occasional serious story.
The big thing that we miss about Psych more than anything else is that it’s joy. Pure joy. It doesn’t try to pretend to be something that it’s not, and it’s real priority is most to just provide viewers with a good time and a compelling mystery. We’re in a time where happiness is not always easy to come by, and this show provides that. Fingers crossed the rumors turn into something more. On a personal level, our heart is with this show than most — it’s one of the first ones we ever wrote about a good eight or so years ago when we started to write about TV, and it makes us so nostalgic and happy just thinking about it.

I hope it’s a good, full feature film. I hope the reason it has taken “so long” is because they were really working on a good movie.

I saw a panel with Cary Elwes at Indiana Comicon this past weekend and he confirmed that they’re shooting a Psych movie this summer!
