As we approach the premiere of The Walking Dead season 8, it looks like Pollyanna McIntosh and others have more job security.
Today, TVLine reported that the Hap and Leonard alum, who plays the leader of the Scavengers in Jadis, has been promoted to series regular. Her role in the future of this series remains unclear, but we know that she didn’t exactly make a whole lot of friends within Rick and the group as a result of her decision to betray them and sell them out to Negan. (Hey, in her mind Negan and the Saviors just so happened to make a better deal — self-preservation is clearly her driving force much more than anything else with her people.)
Meanwhile, there was some other great news announced as both Steven Ogg (Simon) and Katelyn Nacon (Enid) are both also going to be appearing in series-regular roles, as well. The big surprise here is that Nacon wasn’t a regular before given that she did have such a prominent part in the story the past couple of years. As for Ogg, we’re thrilled given that Simon was one of our favorite characters through season 7. If this means an opportunity for more screen time for him, we’ll do as much of a happy dance as we can given that we’re talking about a show here featuring people killing each other / other walkers. (It doesn’t seem like the sort of world where happy dances are commonplace.)
These three promotions came after The Walking Dead lost some regulars following the most-recent season of the show. Steven Yeun and Michael Cudlitz each departed following the premiere thanks to Negan murdering Glenn and Abraham; meanwhile, Sonequa Martin-Green’s Sasha died during the finale, albeit in one of the most awesome ways imaginable.
There is no official premiere date yet for season 8, but you can likely anticipate it starting up in October. That’s when every other season to date has officially begun.
