Saturday Night Live: LCD Soundsystem to join Chris Pine May 6
Earlier this spring, we heard for the first time that Chris Pine was going to be performing on the upcoming May 6 edition of Saturday Night Live; now, we’ve got a good sense of who will be joining him!
NBC confirmed during tonight’s episode that LCD Soundsystem will be the musical guest for the episode, which has to be exciting for some longtime fans of the band. Heck, the fact that they are even together at this point is worthy of celebration given that earlier this decade, the group split up before getting back together and releasing a Christmas song back in 2015.
As for why we are going to be seeing the rock group on now as opposed to some other time, it is in classic SNL fashion: They’ve got a new album coming out, and this is a chance to introduce some of that to some new fans … or people who haven’t listened to them in a while.
Of the three SNL shows coming up this May, we do think that this was the show that needed the bump the most in terms of a notable musical guest. The other two shows coming up, after all, are the ones featuring Melissa McCarthy (who made a cameo tonight as Sean Spicer) and then also Dwayne Johnson, who is going to be hosting the upcoming finale. These two are going to bring in viewers based on their names alone; Pine is great, but he admittedly doesn’t have the same sort of name recognition as either of the other two. Let’s just hope now that this turns out to be every bit as entertaining as we hope it is.
