Recently, we had a chance to learn that Poldark season 3 will be premiering on the BBC at some point in June, and that was a case for great celebration given that it’s slightly earlier than when season 2 started up in the UK.
With that said, there is still a question regarding when Poldark season 3 will premiere in America, and we’ve got the closest thing to an estimation on that subject now. In a new post, the official Twitter page for WGBH in Boston makes it clear that the third season will air at some point in the fall, which makes some sense. If we were to guess, we would say that the show probably will operate under a similar airing schedule to what it did for season 2. PBS likes to have reasonably firm times of the year in which they air many of their shows. For example, they always aired Downton Abbey in the winter, and then Call the Midwife in the spring. They also have a tendency to air shows, Sherlock notwithstanding, many months following their initial airing overseas.
While Poldark in America may not be the same enormous hit as it is overseas, it does still have a rather loyal following. Not only that, but we’re well aware that there are plenty of people out there eager to continue to watch the show in however venue that they can. We do wish that there was a closer window, but it’s one of those battles that doesn’t seem worth fighting for at this point because clearly, PBS has something that works for them in terms of when the show airs.
Regardless of when it comes on, we know that it will be worth the wait based on where we are at present in the story. Ross is committing once more to Demelza, but how long will it last? Will some feelings be distorted in the end by what happens with Elizabeth? What’s the future like for Ross professionally? Just as you would both predict and expect, there are many questions and not many answers at present, but we like it that way. Part of the fun, at least for non-book readers like ourselves, comes via the element of surprise.
