Brooklyn Nine-Nine season 4: Is Gina alive?

Brooklyn Nine-Nine season 4

Tonight, the Brooklyn Nine-Nine season 4 midseason premiere served as a way to answer a wide array of different questions, with one of the biggest ones simply being whether or not Gina made it past the first few minutes alive.

Did the producers really decide to kill off one of the show’s most-beloved characters? Nope! As a matter of fact, the producers decided pretty early on that this was the way that they were going to go with the story. Speaking on the subject to TVLine, executive producer Dan Goor had the following message to pass along about the decision to have her live, and to do some pretty hilarious stuff when it comes to her recovery:

“We were a little bit surprised by the level of Internet concern about her survival. Not because we didn’t think people loved her — we knew people loved her — but it just felt clear to us that we would never kill off a beloved character. So I think once we read [the fans’] tweets… we realized we really should pay it off almost instantly and let people know what’s going on.”

The show did do an effective job of paying off the story pretty quickly, which was great in that it gives you a chance now to see some other stories related to it.

Also, we do think that there is something that the majority of the other shows on TV can learn from this. Think about it for a minute here — there are SO many other shows that threaten to kill someone off, and then spend a huge amount of time trying to determine how long they are going to torment their viewers. For example, Game of Thrones spending a full episode after a Jon Snow cliffhanger before revealing what was going to happen to him. Heck, The Walking Dead did the same thing when it came to Glenn spending several episodes hiding under a dumpster somewhere. (We’re exaggerating here slightly, but our point here still stands in the end.)

Ultimately, we’ll see just how the remainder of the season goes, but for you, do you think that the show handled resolving the cliffhanger the right way? Share in the comments!
