Feud: Bette & Joan episode 7 promo: Joan’s latest objections
When the studio decided to hire these two actresses once more, one of the things that they knew going into it was that this could be a bloodbath. After all, they were bringing on board two people with a reputation for hating each other, and there was no guarantee that they would make it through the production of their second picture together.
As it turned out … well, we won’t spoil history for you if you don’t know what happens with Crawford and this movie. Let’s just say that this does not end well.
Feud: Bette & Joan episode 7 synopsis – “With production of Hush…Hush Sweet Charlotte underway, the feud is intensified when Joan learns of a new producer on the project. In an unguarded moment, Bette reveals her vulnerabilities to Bob. Written by Jaffe Cohen & Michael Zam; directed by Helen Hunt.”
First of all, isn’t it rather wonderful to know that a legendary actress in Hunt is directing a show featuring some other legends in Jessica Lange and Susan Sarandon? If nothing else, this is something that we certainly feel is rather cool. This is hardly Hunt’s first foray into the TV directing world, as she’s done everything from Revenge to Life in Pieces to even a recent episode of This Is Us. The hit NBC show benefited from her services with the episode “Last Christmas” at the end of the year. She’s building a rather great resume for herself here, and is getting to go from one great show to the next.
Beyond the credits for this episode, we’re not sure that there is any big takeaway from this episode, and also the remainder of the season. This isn’t a story about a lesson to learn; it’s a take on one of the most-notorious feuds in Hollywood history, and what can happen when you allow jealousy and a thirst for fame control you beyond the shadow of a doubt.
