If you love Derek Morgan and Criminal Minds, there’s a good chance that you’ve already heard the great news: You will be getting an additional appearance from Shemar Moore by the time you make it to the end of season 12! The actor’s confirmed that he will be back, and we already knew previously that he would be playing a major part regarding the storyline of Mr. Scratch, the big bad responsible for sending off Hotch (Thomas Gibson) and is threatening several of the characters’ lives in one way or another.
Moore recently sat down with Entertainment Tonight, and made it clear that if you love Derek and Garcia, rest assured that the two will spend a little bit of time together:
“Derek comes home with some pertinent information that is going to help the team deal with Scratch — the bad guy … And then it’s just you get to see Derek with the team and Derek’s going to revisit with his baby girl.”
One of the things that is rather nice here is that it feels abundantly clear that there is no ill will at the moment between Moore and anyone on the cast and crew. They were eager to have him back, and he was eager to come back. It makes sense for him to given that he is starring in a new potential CBS remake of SWAT, and doing this show now is a way to ensure further that his name remains out there and that people keep him fresh of mind. This may be one of those situations where both sides benefit heavily from the appearance.
Also, we don’t think that this is necessarily the end of the road for Moore on the series, either; depending on how long Criminal Minds lasts, we could see him coming back in a way that makes sense for the character or the show. It’d be great to have him back in a series finale, or any other sort of milestone episode where we pay tribute to so many people who’ve appeared as a part of the BAU over time.
