Home Fires season 2 episode 1 (PBS): Trailer, early expectations

Home Fires season 2 episode 1

For viewers of PBS, you’ve waited a long time to see the premiere of the British important Home Fires. This is a series that first aired on the other side of the pond almost a full year ago, so they’ve made you wait a long time to check it out.

As for whether or not it’s worth watching, we’d say that it is. If you enjoy compelling British period drama with interesting characters, this show should suit your fancy. It’s also very short, so within a matter of weeks it will be over.

Here’s the bad news — there will not be a Home Fires season 3. ITV in the UK canceled the show after season 2 aired; we do think that there would’ve been a season 3 otherwise, but these episodes will mark the end of the road. We think that it’s helpful to know that in advance, since it will help you prepare for some of the stories that you’re going to be seeing coming up.

If you’re interested now and getting a few teasers regarding what is coming up, the synopsis below offers up a little bit of insight — let’s just hope you remember all of these characters, given that it has been so long:

“Season 2 opens in June 1940 with Britain facing the threat of imminent invasion: Pat strikes up a friendship with a Czech soldier; Sarah receives unsettling news about Adam; Frances faces a tragedy; and Alison makes a deal with the police.”

The story that we’ve always found the most compelling is that of Pat, simply because she’s the woman who a break more than almost anyone. Not only does she have to deal with the torment of being surrounded by so much uncertainty and war, but there is little escape at home courtesy of her abusive husband Bob. There will be some hope for her over the course of the season 2 premiere, but there will also be some despair, regrettably.

If you do want to read our full story about the Home Fires cancellation, we suggest that you head over here and check that out now! We will have some further coverage of the show throughout the season — remember that it will air on PBS at 9:00 p.m. Eastern time, following the premiere of Call the Midwife, If you watch one show, we realize that there’s a pretty good chance that you will want to also check the other.
