Star Trek: Discovery spoilers: Rainn Wilson set to be familiar character
As if Star Trek: Discovery did not have enough intrigue behind it as it is, we’ve also got some other news right now about how former the Office star Rainn Wilson is going to be appearing in a very important role on the show moving forward.
CBS confirmed on Friday that Wilson is going to be appearing as Harcourt Fenton Mudd, who first appeared on the original Star Trek and served as a nice foil to Captain James T. Kirk (William Shatner) as a con man of sorts who had no problem causing trouble across multiple galaxies. He’s made several appearances aside the TV series in some other assorted literature, and is one of those character who’s become fairly beloved even though his actual amount of screen time in the franchise is not altogether massive.
Getting to see this character on the show should be interesting mostly in how it could fofer up some opportunities to see the show touch in on some Star Trek roots, and it offers a further incentive to get potential viewers to sign up for CBS All Access. To date, one of the big issues with this service is a lack of hot original properties. Maybe some viewers sign up for The Good Fight, but that only lasts a certain percentage of the season. Beyond that, the only other exclusive the service has beyond Big Brother live feeds was Big Brother: Over the Top, and it’s not even all that clear at the moment if this is going to return for another go. Star Trek fans are an essential audience for the show, since you don’t know how many people you’re going to get beyond those already familiar with the franchise.
What we do know is that we love Wilson, and his addition should be rather great for a show that already has some great people, whether it be Michelle Yeoh or Sonequa Martin-Green from The Walking Dead. Filming is already taking place, though the network’s being rather coy and slow when it comes to actually releasing footage as to what you can expect.
