13 Reasons Why season 2 renewal: Could it happen on Netflix?
Now, we’re looking more towards the series’ long-term future on Netflix. Is there one? Is there going to be a chance to get a 13 Reasons Why season 2? At present, this is certainly something that seems a little bit unlikely just because the first season is meant to cover the original source material. To draw a comparison between this and another adaptation in Big Little Lies, that was a show that had a defined beginning, middle, and end. Therefore, it’s easy to want and expect something similar from the show here. We do think it’ll deliver on that this season.
Yet, there are no guarantees that this season will be the end of the show. There’s almost always a chance for something more if the parties involved are interested. A great example of a show going on beyond the completion of the source material is The Leftovers over on HBO — as a matter of fact, we’d argue that this was a show that got even better once it started to get a chance to move on beyond its original source material. There’s always a chance that something more could go on here if Netflix sees something that they like from their mysterious ratings tabulations. (After all, you gotta remember that they are not always all that keen on releasing some of their figures to the public. It’s hard to know precisely how good the show will do.)
In the end, the big thing to remember here is that Netflix has a tendency to give all properties that have a season 2 story enough time to tell it. Across the board, we’ve seen them extend the life of everything from dramas to comedies to unscripted fare. They understand that one of the frustrations with network TV at the moment is that so many shows are brought on, only to be quickly canceled. They want to be the one to change the game and offer up further opportunities for viewers to become committed to a show.
