TV Madness 2017: Outlander takes home title for second straight year

TV Madness

TV Madness is officially over for 2017, and once more, Outlander fans can strut off into the sunset hoisting a giant (metaphorical) trophy above their heads!

After several weeks of voting across multiple showdowns and tens of thousands of votes, the Starz drama officially is the champion for the year as of this morning. Its commanding victory over Longmire was really just one in a series of commanding victories that it’s had the entire tournament. The closest showdown it actually had was in the semifinals against Poldark, but even then it won with a solid 75% of the vote.

If you are an Outlander fan, you likely understand by now why the show’s won this tournament for the second straight year, and also why the series routinely wins many fan votes and awards across the internet. It begins and ends with passion. These are fans who are a part of a family that extends far beyond just watching the show. They have gatherings, live-tweet episodes, and many of them take part in My Peak Challenge or support World Child Cancer, an organization advocated by Caitriona Balfe. They express their love for the show and the sense of community it brings them. Any award that it wins is a testament to the work the cast and crew put into making the show, and these awards are ways to thank them. It’s recognition that all of their work had a meaning beyond even producing the episodes.

Also, winning fan votes like these are a way to keep the buzz in the show going. You do have to remember that the series is still in the midst of a lengthy hiatus until September, and that’s a long period of time to wait. Seeing this sort of victory for the show only makes us even further excited to continue promoting and writing about the show on the site — it’s a favorite to write about because 1) it’s a show we thoroughly enjoy and 2) it’s a pleasure to interact with so many people who care so much about it.

Alas, this marks the end of the tournament until next March, but we do express even more of our thanks to all of you for voting and make this so much fun this year. The real goal out of this is that it gets readers fired up about TV and possibly introduces them to a few future favorites; hopefully, it did that for some of you out there.

Be sure to share your thoughts and victory celebrations now in the comments!
