Dancing with the Stars 24: Maksim Chmerkovskiy undergoes surgery

Maksim Chmerkovskiy undergoes surgery

Maksim Chmerkovskiy has officially cleared his next hurdle in his return to Dancing with the Stars later this season — undergoing surgery on his latest injury.

In a new post on his Instagram (see below), you can see the pro dancer in Ohio, getting set to start the process of improvement. The fact that Maks went all the way to Ohio should prove further just how much pro dancers are athletes — you want the best care possible when your body and your physical health dictates your entire future. Therefore, you’re willing to travel in order to get that done. Maks will likely have to miss several shows because of the injury, which means that his partner Heather Morris will continue working in the interim with Alan Bersten.

Do we think that this will damage Heather’s chances in any way this season? Probably not. Alan is a very accomplished pro dancer in his own right, and he knows how to navigate someone like Heather through the competition. It also probably helps that she is one of the most naturally talented people on this season, and as a result of that she will be able to handle some curveballs that are thrown her way. Having dance experience is going to help her be a fast learner, even if these are very different dances than anything that she’s done in the past with Beyonce or on Glee.

Even with Maks recovery, we do also still expect him to have a great presence on the show. He’ll want to support his partner, and of course his fiance Peta Murgatroyd is on there working with Nick Viall! That’s a friendly rivalry that we’re sure he will want to keep going as long as possible. (It helps that Nick is seemingly better than most of the other former Bachelors who have appeared on the show.)

Do you think that Heather and Maks still have a great shot at winning the season in spite of the injury? Be sure to share in the comments! (Photo: ABC.)
