Sleepy Hollow season 5: Renewal odds, hopes for Tom Mison series
For the time being, there’s a pretty easy reason to be worried: The live+same day ratings are among the poorest for any show on the Big Four television networks. So far through season 4, the show is averaging a 0.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic, which is a decline of almost 40% from the season before. Granted, season 3 didn’t air the full time on Fridays, but the numbers are still down even when you compare the Friday season 4 numbers with the ones that aired during season 3 on the night.
Ultimately, a good bit of this could just come down to the specific decision-making on the part of Fox when it comes to what they’re seeing the show contribute in terms of internet streams, DVR ratings, and social traffic. There are so many different factors that go into a renewal these days, and not all of them are easily measured. The show was clearly making money for them last year, which is why they decided to go through with the renewal even when we didn’t think that they would. With that, they could easily do that again.
If the show does end this week, we’ll remember it best probably for that first season, when it was probably the best at combining science fiction with historical drama and gave you so many great fish-out-of-water moments. There were so many people who watched that final episode for a reason. We do think that things went off the rails in season 2 and losing Nicole Beharie after season 3 was a huge blow, but there were still some very good moments during season 4. However, the issue you often run into with these shows is that once viewers leave, it’s rather difficult to figure out how to get them back.

I’m banking on a streaming service to provide future seasons, or perhaps BBC America. In either case, i feel that the issues which lost viewers boiled down to Fox executives forcing the creators a watered down vision. The same thing happened to Supergirl. When it was on CBS, it was almost garbage, but with a superior cast. When it switched over to the CW, it not only improved, it’s been giving The Flash a fierce run for it’s money (figuratively speaking). I can see the same for sleepy hollow. We’re left with a very interesting problem that could handled in the most awesom sort of way, so long as the creators get to rock it, and executives just stay out of it.
