Bones series finale: Don’t expect Emily Deschanel to get full-time gig soon
Speaking in a new postmortem interview with TVLine for the series finale, the actress recounted how she first heard about the news of David’s new gig, but also made it clear that taking on a new full-time project is not something that she is interested in doing just yet:
“David texted me the news and I wrote back, ‘Amazing. Good on you.’ I’m just so impressed that he’s willing to do that right now. But that’s not where I’m at. I’m at a place where I need time to grieve and process the show ending. I’m still recovering.”
If we were to chart out where we think we could personally see Deschanel following her time on the show, we could imagine her doing a few guest spots here and there to get her feet wet over the next season. If her sister Zooey’s show New Girl is renewed, for example, it’d be great to see her pop over there and do some sort of appearance much like Zooey did on Bones. In general, she works really well in comedy, though maybe she does try to go off and tackle some sort of heavy drama next. Given the success of Bones and the amount of time in which she inhabited the role, we do think that there are going to be plenty of interested parties when it comes to working with her moving into the future.
For her, we’d almost recommend a similar path to Nathan Fillion following his time on Castle — he’s made some appearances on various shows, and then he’s gotten some time to travel and do some various conventions. Given that Emily’s worked for so many years at around the same time, we figure there could be some nice freedom to having some spare time to do some other things when she’s typically working all hours of the day.
