Bones series finale: A Zooey Deschanel, Andy Samberg send off
Tomorrow night, the Bones series finale is airing on Fox, and given that this show was such an institution on its network for so many years, it only makes sense that we’d see Fox do everything in its power to give the show a proper ending that can match the high standard that has been set out over the past 12 seasons.
In the video below, you can see many of the other big names from Fox, whether it be Terry Crews, Andy Samberg, Jussie Smollett, or Emily Deschanel’s own sister Zooey do their part to give the show some well-wishes. Given that Zooey actually had a small appearance on the show in the past, that makes her message all the more special.
What’s pretty remarkable is looking back at some of the other shows that were on the air back when Bones first premiered on Fox — we’re talking about the heavy hitters like House, The OC, Everybody Hates Chris, Joey, and That 70’s Show. This was a very different time for television! DVR ratings weren’t a huge factor back then (at least compared to now), and streaming was barely a thought. There’s been so much progress in the way we all watch TV, and there’s been a lot of change at Fox since that time. There is no more American Idol, and the network is all aboard the revival train.
Is it possible that Bones could also be revived at some point in the future? That’s certainly something that we see as a possibility, and it’s something we’ll probably get into further tomorrow when we prepare for the finale. For now, our advice is to go into tomorrow’s episode with the expectation that this is the end of the road, mostly because revivals probably do have a tendency at this point to make us start to take proper series finales for granted.
One more thing that we can say about the Bones finale is that even though things are going to be starting off with the Jeffersonian team going through hell after that huge bomb blast, there is still a light at the end of the tunnel. We don’t expect the show to end with losing all of our main characters, because as much as this show has a focus on solving murder and catching the bad guys, there has always been an element of fun and laughter to go with it. This is a show with a hopeful message and we are hoping to see it end that way too.
