Ratings: Once Upon a Time rises; NCAA Tournament lifts NCIS: Los Angeles
The ratings for Sunday night are in, and the latest episode of the crime procedural tentatively drew a 1.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic. If that number doesn’t adjust down (it does sometimes when sporting events push things back), it would mark the show’s best rating since early November. NCIS: Los Angeles already has a season 9 renewal, but it’s certainly still worth celebrating anytime that a show is able to pull in some of these sort of numbers.
For the record, the NCAA Tournament also helped some other shows such as Madam Secretary (1.1) and Elementary (0.8) improve versus their recent airings. We’ll have to see if they hold firm to some of their recent performances when the final ratings come out. Given that the NFL won’t be back until the fall, there aren’t going to be any chances for a while for some of these shows to improve themselves.
As for elsewhere on the night, one of the real highlights was seeing Once Upon a Time improve itself up to a 0.9 rating, which was its best performance in the past few weeks. It’s still not a tremendous number, but it may be enough to help ensure that it has a season 7 renewal at the end of the day. Alas, this show just cannot do anything to help some of the other programs that are currently on the network. Just look at the performances of Time After Time (0.4) and the woeful American Crime (0.3) on the night. When was the last time that you saw a regularly-scheduled scripted drama on ABC receive a 0.3 rating and stick around? Regardless of how good of a show American Crime may be, this number is pretty appalling. Meanwhile, Time After Time at this point should just be pulled from a business perspective since there is clearly no future there.
