Into the Badlands season 2 ratings down vs. S1; The Walking Dead drops
Let’s start here with the good, since the last thing that we want to be is overly negative. The 1.4 rating that the show posted in the 18-49 demographic is better than the show scored for the final three episodes of the first season, otherwise known as when it didn’t have The Walking Dead as a lead-in. However, it did also perform worse than it did when it had the zombie drama before it during season 1. Consider this the law of diminishing returns, but then also you have to remember the notion that there are probably many people out there who didn’t finish season 1 and simply weren’t able to get back into the show once more.
Do we think that these ratings are enough to get Into the Badlands season 2 a renewal? If it can continue to get at least half of these ratings when it doesn’t have the lead-in around anymore, we feel confident. It’s a great show! Unfortunately, the internet likes to destroy it just because of the fact that it airs after The Walking Dead and keeps some people from watching Talking Dead right away. (Curse the impatient generation!)
As for the ratings for The Walking Dead, the zombie show ended up posting a 4.7 rating, which is one of its lowest ratings of the season. We could harp on that forever, but the reality still here is that this is still a great number that destroys almost everything else that is on the air at the moment.
On a slightly different note, the ratings on Sunday were very good to another show in Big Little Lies. The HBO series starring Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman ended up drawing almost 1.2 million viewers, which is the strongest audience that the drama has managed to pull in to date. That’s a great sign for it as we do move further and further along into the final stretch of the season. It also shows further that there is more of an incentive for HBO to continue similar programming in the future.
