The Voice: Ashley Levin, Casi Joy face off in Battle Rounds; plus, a steal!
At the moment, the primary question that we have is precisely why Blake chose these two to engage in a battle in the first place. He had to know that these two were going to deliver something great, but that he would end up losing one of them in the process. The song choice of “How Blue” by Reba McEntire was country-music royalty. Meanwhile, they had a great mentor in Luke Bryan who knows a thing or two about delivering great country performances.
Then, you get to the performance itself. You can watch that below, and we strongly recommend that you do that if your goal is wanting to get blown away by something exceptional. From start to finish, almost everything was pretty on-point here. Blake had a tough choice here, and we get the pick of Casi to move forward given the fact that she probably had more uniqueness in her voice, and may stand out when we get a little bit further in the season.
From there, we saw the coaches make their play for a steal, given that Ashley was worth keeping around in the competition. Who did she choose? Let’s just say that she went with a fairly surprising choice in Alicia. Given Gwen Stefani’s new love for country music (and her love for her beau Blake), it felt almost like he was going to be the natural choice for almost anyone over the course of the entire season wanting to get into this genre. However, maybe something interesting will come out of this collaboration with Alicia — we do know that, if nothing else, she has an exceptional team and she can be a little of a musical chameleon in her own right.
